Conventions in 2010 [Oct. 26th, 2009|11:11 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]
[mood | cheerful]

So, we've looked at finances, holiday logistics, Lex logistics, and a bunch of other stuff, and have had to divvy up the convention going for next year. We've been nutting out ideas for a while, but Sharon's work commitments and our finances have meant we've had to firm up our plans. Read more... )

Having noticed that I have picked up a lot of Russian folks who have found me through the photo-blogs, I just thought I'd use Babelfish to say "Hello" to you all and thank you for your continued interest in my pictures.

So...

Anyway, here are the first batch of photos from [info]gutter_monkey's and my trip from Melbourne to Canberra. Some of these you will have seen on Scott's journal, and his facebook, but for the rest of you, here they are... 13 pictures below cut )

[mood | bouncy]

After I drop Sharon at the airport on Sunday, I get to spend a couple of days driving back to Canberra with [info]gutter_monkey. We have no plans, beyond trying to check-out disused rail lines, and we may change that to something else.

I think you should all be jealous.

Road Trip!

Some February dot points [Feb. 16th, 2009|11:27 pm]

* I made banana and walnut muffins today, and they were yummy. I gave half to Bill and Diane from the Post Office, because they are lovely people and I didn't manage a Chrissy prezzie for them last year.

* Our estate agent has put back our rent inspection a month at my request. Basically told her we were in the middle of sorting/rearranging, and the house would be a mess.

Cut for extreme length, and because there's nothing overly exciting... )

Weekend [Jan. 26th, 2009|11:22 am]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | exhausted]

Took a short trip with Sharon and Lex on the weekend, and wandered up to visit Lewis, Marylin, Nick, and Adrian in the Blue Mountains.

Had a lovely time catching up with good friends, though I slept a hell of a lot once I got there. Think I've finally crashed after my super-busy day a couple of weeks back, either that or it was my very busy pre-trip Friday wot did me in. Certainly I'm still struggling today and about to go back to bed.

Have to say though, the GPS is fabulous for exploring! On the way back I set it for the fastest route home (that didn't use the tollways) and we went from the Blue mountains to Goulburn, using only smaller roads and routes, no highways, and going through little towns like Oberon and Taralga. I always love driving new roads, each one is an fresh adventure. I really liked Taralga and want to swing back for a proper visit. And there was a some gorgeous scenery on the way back, too.

Best thing, in total taking the back roads rather than the highway and tollway only took us a quarter hour longer! For a much more beautiful trip! Would like to have taken photos, but stopping the car teands to mean Lex will wake, then need to feed, then need a change, and so an hour is lost. So if I'm going to stop, it needs to be pretty spectacular. Instead what i do now is put together a list of places I want to revisit.

Oh dear, more trips, how sad :)

40th Birthday Present Pics Day 3 [Nov. 26th, 2008|02:45 pm]

[mood | accomplished]

It's taken a couple of months, but I've finally gotten around to sorting the pictures from my last day on the train to Perth. A trip which was paid for by many of the people who read this LJ, so thank you once again.

Follow the links to see pictures from days one and two.

This day was the most interesting for me, because I got to stop at Cook, a town I've never been to. Yay! Lots of pictures below the cut... )

Off to Melbourne. [Nov. 20th, 2008|03:12 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | cheerful]

I leave later today to head for Melbourne so I can do a little businessy stuff, and more importantly attend Continuum Relit.

Taking a new route down, using the Monaro Highway. It'll mean I approach Melbourne from the East, the side of town where most of what I have to do is. It takes an extra 80 odd km, but on the other hand I don't have to cross town once I arrive. If I had more time I'd crash the night in Bombala on my way down and try to get photos of platypuseseseses in the morning. Oh well, another trip, maybe.

It's going to be a flying visit, one where I catch up with virtually no-one, which is how most of my future business-type trips to Melbourne will be. Being the home dad, I have to be back in time to look after Lex again on Monday. For this trip, since I had to get to town during business hours on a weekday to do a chunk of what I needed to do, Sharon has taken an RDO for tomorrow. She and the boy aren't coming with me, which is sad, but on the other hand I will have room in the car for non-baby stuff!

Hopefully I'll see some of you at Relit. No need to RSVP any more, that was just so we had approximate numbers for the food (a range from carnivore to vegan appetites). Free nibbles, socialising, drinks, an announcement or two, and the very scrumptious Continuum 5 committee will be there too... how can you resist?

Post-trip [Oct. 26th, 2008|12:34 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | tired]

Just a quick post-trip post.

We got back on Tuesday night. Lex was really good to travel with, within the limitations of him being a baby and therefore a bit demanding. Started sleeping through the night, even when he'd slept in the car seat all day while we were driving.

It's since we've been home that he's been a real little pain. Unsettled, waking every couple of hours overnight, won't go to sleep when put down. Too busy or too tired, hence no posts.

Obviously he prefers the open road ;-)

A brief post for the many, many people who said we couldn't travel to remote places with Lex.

Post-Melbourne trip, my son, at 8 weeks, has seen more of the country than most of the people who offered me this advice, and we aren't home yet. Interestingly we have discovered travelling with him so far inland is no different than travelling with him from Canberra to Melbourne was.

10,000 years ago we all used to be nomads, yet somehow we managed.

And I have the Belwood!

A quick selection of pictures of places he's been, below the cut.Read more... )

Last note on the weekend visit [Oct. 8th, 2008|09:18 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | chipper]

We will be in Melbourne this weekend, staying at Sharon's dad's place. Details are in a previous post.

We're just about to leave for Bateman's Bay, and the car is packed. I have one request of anyone we end up seeing while in town.

No presents. Please.

The car is packed to the rafters. Any gifts, even little bits of clothing, will have me scratching my head trying to figure where to put it. Your presence will be enough.

Cheers!

Come and see our sprog! [Oct. 6th, 2008|10:34 pm]

[mood | cheerful]

Barring disasters, Sharon, Lex, and I should be in Melbourne from sometime Friday. We might make it to the MSFC but it's not super likely.

However, we will be staying in Noble Park, at Sharon's dad's place. And we figure if we've driven 650+km with an infant, you buggers can bloody travel the last 20! :-)

You'll be able to catch us there until about 3pm on Sat 11th, and we'll be there all day Sunday. After that we leave for Cohuna on Monday or Tuesday (or Wednesday if we're feeling tired). So if you don't catch us on the weekend, you might catch us after that, but don't count on it.

Travel [Apr. 11th, 2008|11:11 am]

[mood | cheerful]

I am heading to Melbourne for a few days... maybe a week... it's variable. Finalising a few things with the sale of the Noble Park house, last catch-up with a few people before Lex turns our lives upside down, last face-to-face with my suppliers for a while, etc.

If I fail to catch up with you while I'm in town, please don't take it personally. Actually, if you're that bloody sensitive, do take it personally and then learn to get over yourself :P

In other news, after 20 years of driving, I seem to have suddenly developed the trick of flooding the engine every bloody time I start the car! I'm utterly consistent, too. No idea what I've suddenly started doing differently. So if I have trouble starting the car when I'm with you, it's not the car, it's me :)

Danny go whoosh now...

WHOOSH!

Swancon [Mar. 23rd, 2008|06:30 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]
[mood | tired but going strong]

It's been good for all the reasons Swancon is usually good - loads of people turning up wanting to have a good time. Personal highlights for me have been getting to meet Robert Shearman again, finally getting to have good conversations with Kendra and Shasta (who I would dearly like to work on something - costume, panel, act, etc. - with), catching up with Sean, Mitch, Mondy, and generally partying like mad.

That's been one thing. The train trip over was handled the way I thought I'd have to be handling the con, and indeed, it's been the way I have had to handle other cons, 1-3 hours out at events, panels and chatting to people, the rest of the time resting in my room.

Except I seem to have had one of my exceptional periods, where I'm suddenly capable of running around a lot, partying, and generally like my old self. I've partied late every night, done big panels and events like the auction and masquerade, and I'm still going strong. I'm actually surprised and not a little bit stunned by how well I'm doing. I'm in lots of pain, but my balance is good, which makes life so much easier. I fully expect to crash and burn at any time, but hey, the con's nearly over, so it doesn't matter. It's the first con since the stroke where I haven't felt like I was wasting money because I got to see/do so little.

Photos soon-ish.
