| Priorities... |
[Dec. 13th, 2009|12:45 pm] |
One of the things I've become conscious of in recent months is my priorities. They haven't changed, I'm just aware of them now.
While my health and fitness has improved slowly but steadily since the stroke, I still have a fairly limited amount of spoons, and even when I'm doing well, it doesn't take much to steal them all if I'm not careful. I've been tending to beat myself up a bit for not getting things done, but then recently I realised how it is I work my limited resources. ( Read more... ) |

| Conventions in 2010 |
[Oct. 26th, 2009|11:11 pm] |
So, we've looked at finances, holiday logistics, Lex logistics, and a bunch of other stuff, and have had to divvy up the convention going for next year. We've been nutting out ideas for a while, but Sharon's work commitments and our finances have meant we've had to firm up our plans. ( Read more... ) |

| Long Term Planning and Willing Souls |
[Aug. 7th, 2009|01:32 pm] |
The mid to late nineties was when I first had the base idea for the Continuum Conventions. I still have most of my notes from then, filed away where I can one day come across them and say, "So that's where they were!"
I've never thought as myself as a good person for running cons, or something like the Continuum Foundation for that matter. ( Read more... ) |

| Dot Points from the last couple of months |
[Jul. 25th, 2009|12:40 am] |
In the last week or so, I've had a small bunch of concerned friends contact me privately to ask if I was okay, as I haven't been posting much for a while. Everything's cool, I've just been balancing being busy with my limited mental/physical energy, and some things, like LJ, are tending to suffer.
Thank you for the thoughts! I have been wanting/trying to put stuff up, but just not finding the time. Now some quick dot points and a picture... ( Read more... ) |

| Whose son is he? |
[Jul. 10th, 2009|07:15 pm] |
Conversation with Sharon a while ago
Me - Your son has been a right little horror all day!
Sharon - My son? And when does he get to be your son?
Me - When he sets fire to something or gets arrested for public indecency.
-Beat-
Sharon - That sounds fair. |

| 11 years |
[Jul. 5th, 2009|06:43 pm] |
Today is Shaz and my 11th Wedding Anniversary. Surviving the eleven years isn't the achievement, it's surviving the last ten months with Lex!
We had a nice day at the National Film and Sound Archives, 'cos we're geeks. And before anyone says anything, it was Sharon's idea! |

| April Dot Points additional +pics |
[May. 3rd, 2009|10:16 pm] |
Just some extra things I forgot to mention...
* While seated and holding Lex in the kitchen the other week, he head-butted me, driving my head back into the wall. *Whack* *Thud* "Nice one, Lex," I said, prompting him to do it twice more in rapid succession. *Whack* *Thud* *Whackthud!*
* Lex is now shit scared of my dalek.
* hehehehehe...
* Lex only started to properly crawl a week or so back. Within a couple of days of nailing crawling, he started to pull himself up to standing using things like the couch. A day after that, he started trying to actually climb up onto things like the couch. Too fast!
* Tomorrow night at 7:30 on SBS is the Botswana episode of Top Gear. If you've never seen the show, or have seen an episode but didn't like it, try this one. This is the one that turned Sharon into a fan. I've been married to her for over a decade, and I have literally never seen her laugh so hard for so long. She was in real pain by the end. Basically, if this episode doesn't get you in, Top Gear will never be a show you'd enjoy.
* She's sitting beside me and giggling now, just thinking about it.
* I have decided that at some point, within the next few years, I will have to get a theremin.
* Continuum 5 seems to be shaping up well. We're going, who else is?
* Lex also gets to listen to Uncle Terry on PaleoCinema fairly regularly.
( * Four Lex pictures below the cut... ) |

| My Little Bull Terrier |
[Apr. 18th, 2009|01:20 pm] |
Bull terriers have an interesting quirk - they can bite down so hard that nothing will make them let go until they want to. Some people mistake this for them 'locking' their jaws, when in fact it's just sheer bloody-mindedness on the part of the animal. No matter how much damage is done to them, they won't let go until they are done, unconscious, or dead.

I once saw our 13 year old, half-blind bull terrier, Pancho, get into a fight with three other younger, bigger dogs that weren't on leads and ran as a pack. Dad tried to intervene, he always did if Pancho was involved in a fight, but after having the owner of the three dogs make no effort to stop them, and make a smiling comment along the lines of 'Sorry mate! Dogs, eh? Whatcha gunna do?' Dad decided to let Pancho do his thing. Dad wasn't trying to protect our dog. Pancho tore them to shreds, much to the dismay of the owner.
Sharon is a bit like a bull terrier At the moment she's pissed off at someone who is wrong on the internet, and is formulating her reply. I was going to reply to them myself, but shazgirl is going to do a much more thorough job than I, who would have been relying on memory and, too be blunt, can't be bothered arguing the point that much. They are making sweeping statements about events they weren't around to witness.
Normally Sharon wouldn't bother to reply either, but this one has annoyed her. She knows the statement made is wrong, and now she's doing the research to prove just how totally wrong it is. Today is the second day of her research. I would have gone into this with a figurative punch on the nose, Sharon will be going in with a chainsaw in each hand.
Love you, sweetheart! And I've never wanted you more! |

| Some February dot points |
[Feb. 16th, 2009|11:27 pm] |
* I made banana and walnut muffins today, and they were yummy. I gave half to Bill and Diane from the Post Office, because they are lovely people and I didn't manage a Chrissy prezzie for them last year.
* Our estate agent has put back our rent inspection a month at my request. Basically told her we were in the middle of sorting/rearranging, and the house would be a mess.
( Cut for extreme length, and because there's nothing overly exciting... ) |

| Random Dot Points |
[Jan. 28th, 2009|08:42 pm] |
- Lex is simply not bothered by the heat to any noticeable degree. We haven't got air-conditioning in the car or house, and he seems fairly unfussed. Which is good, because I think people rely on aircon too much, and then are unable to cope without it.
- Lex also seems totally unphased by the pair of teeth working their way up through his gum. He's marginally more needy in that he wants more hugs, but is often quite happy to be left while we get on with Stuff(TM).
- Still struggling like a big wuss. Haven't crashed in the same way I normally do, but it's still draining.
- Back to swimming lessons tonight. Was good, but exhausting.
- Have you ever considered the great debt we owe panelists who actually care enough to do research for their panels? In preparation for the Doctor Who panel at this year's Swancon, today I watched episode 3 of Time and the Rani... I would rather be at the dentist having my four wisdom teeth pulled out.
- I still have to organise going to the dentist to have my wisdom teeth removed.
- Sharon is still beautiful.
- I would really like to be in a condition to go to the Post Office Friday to mail off some things, since I will have the car then. Time will tell.
- Last night I felt like crap and really wanted to watch something, so I picked Escape from New York. It was the first time I had seen it in around twenty years, and is still an enjoyable watch. It's funny how absolutely everyone seems to know Snake Plissken. |

| "You won't be able to take the baby on those trips of yours around Australia..." |
[Oct. 19th, 2008|01:30 am] |
A brief post for the many, many people who said we couldn't travel to remote places with Lex.
Post-Melbourne trip, my son, at 8 weeks, has seen more of the country than most of the people who offered me this advice, and we aren't home yet. Interestingly we have discovered travelling with him so far inland is no different than travelling with him from Canberra to Melbourne was.
10,000 years ago we all used to be nomads, yet somehow we managed.
And I have the Belwood!
A quick selection of pictures of places he's been, below the cut.( Read more... ) |

| Come and see our sprog! |
[Oct. 6th, 2008|10:34 pm] |
Barring disasters, Sharon, Lex, and I should be in Melbourne from sometime Friday. We might make it to the MSFC but it's not super likely.
However, we will be staying in Noble Park, at Sharon's dad's place. And we figure if we've driven 650+km with an infant, you buggers can bloody travel the last 20! :-)
You'll be able to catch us there until about 3pm on Sat 11th, and we'll be there all day Sunday. After that we leave for Cohuna on Monday or Tuesday (or Wednesday if we're feeling tired). So if you don't catch us on the weekend, you might catch us after that, but don't count on it.

| 40th Birthday Present Pics Day 1 |
[Sep. 23rd, 2008|01:07 pm] |
Due to my various computer hassles, mixed in with being stroke boy, and being forgetful, I haven't gotten around to sorting/coverting these until now. Late nights with Lex can be good sometimes :)
This is the first day of travelling, and the pictures are in chronological order, so you get a sense of the journey...
