| 100 Days of Love and Hate - Day 71 |
[Jan. 29th, 2009|01:14 am] |
Only 15 months since the last post! Woohoo! Given that I found myself having a harder and harder time reading and writing over that period, I'm happy to forgive myself.
Most Love and Hate posts tended to take around four hours of pretty solid work to get to a point where, if I wasn't entirely happy with it's wording, I wasn't unhappy with it being seen. And I just don't generally have the mental energy to throw around like that. And if I do, well, I can be playing with my son, or trying to get back into writing fiction.
I wanted to try and get a few more under my belt before posting again, but what the hell.

| Naked Truths |
[Apr. 29th, 2008|01:53 pm] |
This post has ended up as a kind of an informal sequel to this 100 Days post. No need to read it, just mentioning it for those who are interested. -----------------------------------------------------------
While I was in Melbourne, a comment from a friend of mine woke me to a whole attitude towards nudity and sex that I wasn't consciously aware I carried. The young lady in question is one of those folks that fits into two smallish camps - people I'd like to have sex with, and people who I'd like to photograph naked.
Now the two don't necessarily go together. And before I go into the personal revelation, I want to have a go at explaining the difference. ( One of those long, rambly, introspective posts. Possibly NSFW, hard to say... ) |

| Random oddments |
[Apr. 6th, 2008|02:47 pm] |
Have sort of crashed a bit. Haven't really been on net or looked at email for several days, kind of spinning through the day not taking much in, though did make the meeting with con-runners yesterday, which was great.
I have done a new budget, and it's kind of scary. Even with a $100K deposit, we may not be able to find an affordable house in Canberra! And the budget is a tight one, with about $600 put aside for a year's entertainment (eating out/movies/fairs, etc.), pretty much all the rest is covering bills of one description or another. Admittedly we've increased our shopping budget by $50 in preparation for Lex, but given our current shopping budget has been $75 for the last ten years, I think it was about time anyway. There is currently no budgeted money for con-going, though what we're hoping is that profits from the business will help with that.
Will probably be heading down to Melbourne in the next week or two to finalise a few odds and sods. My camera hasn't been letting me download pictures onto the computers, hence no trip shots yet. Am currently sorting through photos for a couple of different projects. Have written a new Love & Hate post, though want to get another one or two up my sleeve before posting.
Oh, and it's Guttermonkey's Birthday! Hope you have a great one, my friend! And a good birthday, too.
Have just finished downloading the first episode of Season Four of New Who, and will watch it very shortly. |

| 100 Days of Love and Hate - Day 70 |
[Oct. 28th, 2007|12:23 am] |
Yes, it's been a while, sorry about that. Two major contributing factors - one is that I foolishly left a lot of difficult subjects for the final 30. Not all of them are, but many require a fair bit of work. That wouldn't be so bad, but the other reason is that with recent events I simply don't always have the mental energy required to open myself up in this way and write about my thoughts and feelings. But be patient and I'll get there. One of the strengths of 100 Days is the required balance of talking about something I hate and something I love. Anyone can bitch and moan day after day, that's easy - counting your loves is far more rewarding and enjoyable for others to read, but much, much harder to write.
Nudity ( Long post, but I don't think there's anything particularly NSFW or TMI about it. )

| Quiet few days... |
[Oct. 6th, 2007|12:10 pm] |
Been waking up at silly times, then dozing on and off through to about 10am, then laying in bed writing/surfing the net for an hour or two. It's the aftermath of the trip, followed by a con - I ain't goin' nowhere fast :)( Just a basic catch-up, nothing of note... ) |

| Hooray for my external operating systems! |
[Sep. 15th, 2007|03:39 pm] |
In Melbourne, Tiki was my brain. She could see how broken and non-functional I was and realised that someone else needed to be making decisions for me. ( Read more about Tiki's bossy nature, and other controlling people! *ducks, runs* )
Pancakes is organised, that's my major feat. I rang and tried to explain things to the guy who was trying to work with an inflexible system and an inflexible mind. It drained me but it's done. But my original plans for catching up with lots of people away from pancakes - out the window, just like in Melbourne. Bugger!
Will take the chance with a few people to drag them off to a more private table for a quick five minute chat while at pancakes. There's a few I'd like brief D&M's with, and one where I need to at least get a conversation started about swearing that we can continue at Swancon next year.( Lots of blather below cut... You know what I'm like... )
As birthdays go, even with all the tears, emotional pain, physical exhaustion - it's one of the best and most rewarding I've ever had. I've been shown a lot of love, care, support and tenderness by my friends, and for the first time in my life, I actually feel like I may deserve some of it. I don't feel worthy of the sheer amount of kindness I've been shown, but I do at least feel like, hey, maybe I am worth some small amount of trouble afterall.
Thank you everyone. |

| Fandom's Fatness follow-up, and something that *really* bothered me... |
[Aug. 2nd, 2007|08:42 pm] |
(If you can be bothered, probably worth clicking some of the links to get the full picture...)
Some people said they were angry or disappointed in me for my Fandom's Fatness post in 100 Days. Some people also agreed with it. Some saw it for what it was, an occasionally poorly worded post that addressed one particular aspect of the problem of health in fandom, something that concerns me because it affects people I care about. (I loved babalon_93's reply with "Health at any size" - that's a keeper! She also included a link to a fabulous video by Joy Nash. Interestingly I don't think of Nash as fat - she's a big girl but looks healthy...)( Read more... )

| Another good day |
[Jan. 9th, 2007|08:47 pm] |
Today I took mum shopping, took the dog for a walk, cleaned a little, answered some emails, played dominoes with mum, mailed off some stuff to some customers, watched last night's episode of Smallville, ate an apple, had a shower and shave (arrrgh, my face hurts!), and watered the garden.
I considered doing a 100 Days post, but realised I have hardly any easy/short topics left, and I'm not up to anything in-depth. I foolishly used most of the light stuff in the first 50, so when I feel tired now, it's harder to do a post. Go back and read the ones you've missed :)
But I've had a fair day, pushed myself pretty hard, but have accomplished some things. Yay me. Tired now.
Any potential additions to 100 Days of Love and Hate, or 100 Questions (I have 18 question from you all so far), whack them below.
