| Emma Watson's new direction |
[Jun. 15th, 2009|10:50 am] |
"There's no doubt that Harry Potter has been good for my career, but I need a change, and I want to head in a dramatic new direction to show my range. I've even had a costume custom made to show my commitment and sent the photo to Steven Moffat telling him my idea. I suspect I'll be hearing from him any day now."

| Web Planet |
[Feb. 19th, 2009|11:49 am] |
Last night I watched the first episode of The Web Planet. It was just what I needed. And the best thing?
I turned on the 5.1 surround sound, just for the hell of it! |

| Some February dot points |
[Feb. 16th, 2009|11:27 pm] |
* I made banana and walnut muffins today, and they were yummy. I gave half to Bill and Diane from the Post Office, because they are lovely people and I didn't manage a Chrissy prezzie for them last year.
* Our estate agent has put back our rent inspection a month at my request. Basically told her we were in the middle of sorting/rearranging, and the house would be a mess.
( Cut for extreme length, and because there's nothing overly exciting... ) |

| Four Unexpected Things |
[Jan. 11th, 2009|09:56 am] |
- The highly erotic/sadistic piece of the dream sequence in the 1941 version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde starring Spencer Tracy. Otherwise, the film was mostly average, though Tracy's performance was good, and there was an interesting variation on the multiple fade change near the end. They superimposed his eyes separately so while the rest of the shot had the normal fade issues, his eyes remained mostly static. Quite clever, as we tend to look at the eyes.
- Lex slept last night from 9pm until 9:30 this morning. Generally five to six hours is a really good night!
- Finding the original computer game Fallout for $15.
- I did a stocktake, and discovered I have $11,000 (retail) of Doctor Who toys and DVDs to sell. Given that chunk of my stuff is imported, and I don't charge huge mark-ups, that's kind of amazing. That doesn't count the couple of things I have to send to people where it's been delayed due to baby/house-cleaning/health issues. Before the stocktake, I thought I probably had about $5K in stock. There's another twelve hundred worth of other DVDs and toys. |

| Future Doctors |
[Jan. 4th, 2009|03:42 pm] |
By now most of you will have heard that Matt Smith is to be the 11th Doctor.
I trust Moffat and co. to have chosen carefully, but I am a little worried about the future if recent trends continue. At this rate, another fifteen years we'll have a foetus behind the console! |

| Things New Parents Should Know #18 - Dalek Operators |
[Nov. 13th, 2008|02:22 pm] |
Interviews with the artists and actors that used to reside inside the dalek casings of the original series of Doctor Who often contained a moment where they were asked how one operated a dalek. The reply usually consists of a quote not unlike this -
"Well, you sit on the seat, and scoot the dalek along the floor with your feet. There's a crossbar you can hold onto with one hand to give you better control. With your other hand you operate the sink plunger, with your third hand you move the gunstick, and with your fourth hand you move the eyestalk and operate the lights while remembering your lines so you can synch with dalek dialogue coming in over the speakers."
I fully recommend spending some time as a dalek operator as it will furnish you with the extra manual skills and dexterity you will need before attempting such things as nappy changes and baby baths. |

| Busy, good, and bad |
[Oct. 2nd, 2008|02:14 pm] |
The last week has ended up being all sorts of crazy and busy, but mostly good crazy and busy, with the only negative being a grizzly baby some of the time. And that's counter-acted by the fact we're getting some smiles scattered about here and there, which is nice. Hence no posts.
The last 24 hours, however, has been craptacular! Roadshow dicked me about with my order, changing the price of one of their reduced DVDs, but that's normal for them. The good side is at least I'll be getting them sometime soon-ish.
I lost my wallet on the way back from the Post Office yesterday. No sign of it yet. Losing the $50 in it is still less annoying than if I have to replace all the cards. Have just come back from putting up signs and asking at the Kaleen shops to see if it had been handed in. The good side was I got to ride my trike, and got to wear my skeleton socks, so not all bad. And as I said to Sharon, if I've lost this one I'll have to buy a new one with room in it for photos of my wife and son.
I'm behind on my preparation for the panels/items I'm doing at Conflux. Yes, I can talk about this stuff off the cuff better than some people who have prepared, but I think an over-reliance on just knowing your topic and not doing a bit of brushing up beforehand shows an essentially arrogant and lazy attitude. And if you're too lazy to do the work, why are you wasting people's time being on the panel? But the good side is, I'll get to talk Doctor Who, do trivia, do Magical Hat, and catch up with some people for the few hours I'm there on my panel passes. And I still have time to go over my notes before the con at this point.
Funtastic have chosen not to honour the remainder of my order for Classic Series Doctor Who figures. Basically, it doesn't matter that I have an order with them, they have pulled the remainder of my stock (and everyone else's) to put aside for Myer, Roger David, or one of the other big guys that didn't bother to order this stuff six fucking months ago, unlike the rest of us!
There is no good side, I'm fucking furious.
I do at least have enough figures put aside for those that ordered them, so no problem there, just been too flat chat to process them.
If anyone can tell me how I would go about sending an email to Funtastic's stockholders, I'd appreciated the information. Funtastic's stock have dived in recent times, and this sort of behaviour can't help. I would like their stockholders to know how they dick about the people giving them money.
The Voyage of the Damned Gift Sets got pulled in much the same way for one of the big companies. Six months later, they have obviously decided that they don't want them and the sets are now available again. In fact, virtually all the units that were pulled are back. So now there's a huge excess of old stock... still at the original price! Why would I want to buy them? Anything like this I really wanted to sell, I've sourced from overseas to fill my orders. I had to charge more, but at least I had the stock.
I don't expect it to do any good, but I'm ringing Character Options in the UK tonight to beg them to find another Australian distributor. |

| Classic Series Doctor Who Toys |
[Sep. 26th, 2008|02:03 pm] |
It's been a mad couple of days, but I'm just squeezing this in before I have to run out the door.
I should have a couple of boxes of the Classic DW figures in next week, and according to Stan, my warehouse guru, I can definitely get more.
There are 8 figures in the first wave. They are -
- D84 with Anti Robot Transmitter - SV7 with Robot Hand - Zygon - Colin Baker The Sixth Doctor with Sonic Lance - Tom Baker The Fourth Doctor with 2nd Head and Sonic Screwdriver - Peter Davison The Fifth Doctor with Sonic Screwdriver - Magnus Greel with 2nd Head & Mr Sin - Sea Devil with Heat Ray
Each figure comes with a part of the giant K1 robot, so if you collect all 8, you effectively get the K1 for free!
At this point, I should be charging $20 per figure, or $150 if you want all 8. The sooner you let me know what you'd like, the more likely I'll be able to fill your order. I have no idea how many of each Doctor will be in the boxes, there may only be one of each. That may limit availability, as it's no good leaving myself with lots of other non-selling figures while filling only orders for Doctors. Once I have numbers, I can put in a solid order and let people know what I can provide.
You can place orders with me through here or via email on - dannydoz at netspace dot net dot au
So get in fast, and I'll give you an update next week! |

| 41 |
[Sep. 22nd, 2008|10:38 am] |
I'm freshly showered and shaved, I'm wearing red and white stripey socks and dalek underpants, and my son gurgling away in the bouncy gulag.
Today I'm 41 and all is right with my world :) |
