7.5 hours later, and my 500 Gb drive has finished having all its partitions done!

I think I'll let it transfer all the data overnight.

What OS you installing?

I spent a bit of time today tweaking my setup. I now have it happily dual-booting Ubuntu and XP. From Ubuntu I can run the XP as a virtual environment. Each OS can see the other OSs drives (Ubuntu now sees the NTFS drives and XP sees the ext3 drives.)

I also fixed a nasty nasty bug on my Ubuntu linked to buggy firmware in the current Nvidia 8600 setup.

Some days I feel like such a geek! It has been pointed out that I enjoy tweaking my OS setup more than I enjoy running any applications under either OS. There may be some truth in that :-)

Didn't install an operating system as the computer is running fine with XP on it. Recently bought a laptop though (old one started randomly dying and for the cost of getting it fixed I may as well finally get a new one) which came pre-installed with Vista.

The only thing I like about Vista is that it found my network and the other computers on it without any fuss. Other than that, it runs like a cow hopped up on goofballs. It's actually slower than my old, second hand laptop running Windows 2000.

Have been considering Ubuntu as a replacement.

Apropos of nothing...

Oi, Danny -- could you drop me a line at jblum at zip.com.au? Just wanted to know if you could do, or recommend someone who could do, an effects shot for me...
